Recipe for Bhaidku

Bhaidku is Guajarati word for spicy porridge. It can be made with many different grains. Bajri bhaidku is the most popular though. Its a perfect recipe for anybody who is pregnant or lactating or looking for a light meal.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 Tablespoons Broken Bajra
  • ½ Cup Curd (dahi)
  • ¼ Teaspoon Carom Seeds
  • Salt to taste

METHOD

  1. Combine the curd with 1/2 cup water to make buttermilk.
  2. Combine the broken bajra, ajwain and salt with prepared buttermilk in a flat vessel and mix well.
  3. Place this vessel in a pressure cooker and pressure cook for 5 - 6 whistles.
  4. Remove the flat vessel when the pressure cooker is cool enough.
  5. Once th bhaidku mixture is cool enough cut it into pieces and serve with curd.
