Recipe for Chouki Dal

INGREDIENTS

  • ½ Cup Pigeon Pea (Toor Dal) washed and drained
  • ½ Teaspoon Asafoetida (Heeng)
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder (haldi)
  • 2 Tablespoons Garlic ( लहसुन) finely chopped
  • 6 Pieces Whole Dry Red Chillies Kashmiri
  • 1 Tablespoon Oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander Leaves to garnish

METHOD

  1. Combine the pigeon pea (toor dal) with asafoetida, turmeric powder, oil and enough water. Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles.
  2. Once the dal is cooked, crush it using a hand blender till it forms a smooth paste.
  3. Heat oil in a deep non-stick pan, add garlic and sauté.
  4. Add the whole dry kashmiri red chillies and sauté.
  5. Add the cooked dal and mix well.
  6. Cover and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
  7. Garnish it with coriander leaves and serve it hot
