Recipe for White Pumpkin Halwa

White halwa or Kasi Halwa as it is traditionally called is a simple halwa recipe made using minimal ingredients. Make this shiny halwa using white pumpkin, sugar, khoya and ghee. The almond and pistachio slivers give it the necessary crunch.

  • 4 Cups White Pumpkin (Safed Kaddu) (grated)
  • 1 Cup Sugar (Shakar)
  • 1 Cup Khoya (grated)
  • ½ Cup Ghee (Ghee)
  • 1 Tablespoon Almonds (slivers)
  • 1 Tablespoon Pistachios (slivers)
  • 2 Teaspoons Cardamom Powder


  1. Combine the white pumpkin and sugar in a deep non-stick pan and cook on a medium flame till the mixture starts to boil while stirring occasionally.
  2. Add the khoya and cool till it turns golden brown in colour while stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the ghee, almonds and pistachios, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 10 minutes while stirring occasionally.
  4. Transfer the mixture into a greased plate and flatten it using the back of a spoon.
  5. Sprinkle cardamom powder on top and cut it into pieces once it cools down or just let it cool just like that.
  6. Serve.
